International Day of Yoga Celebrations at YSS Dwarahat Ashram (2018)

In view of Gurudeva Sri Sri Paramahansa Yoganandaji’s pivotal role in the spread of yoga worldwide, Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) organised various programmes across the country to commemorate this 4th International Day of Yoga, including at its beautiful Dwarahat Ashram.

Certainly Paramahansaji would be very pleased to learn that the world will now be paying homage annually to the philosophy and science of Yoga, as his life was dedicated to introducing all truth seekers to the time-honored techniques of yoga meditation.

YSS Dwarahat Ashram, located in the mountains of north India, celebrated the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 24, 2018 with a special programme performed by children and the award of a scholarship to a young devotee.

As part of the IDY celebrations, YSS Dwarahat ashram gave away a special eudcational scholarship to Kumari Shubhangini Sah for her stupendous performance in internatonal competitions in Canada earlier this year. An amount of INR 30,000 has been contributed by the Ashram for her Masters in Physical Education (M PEd).

During their Children Sunday Satsanga class, kids learnt about how the International Day of Yoga got established as a worldwide commemoration celebrating the ancient Indian science of Yoga. They were told about the great Indian yogis like Swami Vivekananda, Gurudeva Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda and many others contributed to the spread of the science of Yoga in the West.

Through a hand-crafted 'paper flower,' the eight-fold Ashtanga Yoga path was explained to the children by the volunteers. They were also shown small video clips on Yoga asanas and Yog Sutras. An audio from NCERT was also played to make them aware of the life and contribution of Maharishi Patañjali to Yoga.

Following the Sunday satsanga for devotees, Children Sunday Satsanga kids performed some yoga asanas in a special programme at the Krishna temple, which was witnessed by the devotees. Brahmachari Nirliptanandaji distributed prasad at the end of the programme.
